Submit Manuscript

The Scandinavian Journal of Economics invites manuscripts in all areas of economics.

The journal offers two sumbission types: regular, and single-round conditional-accept or reject.

If authors choose the single-round option, the editor will either reject or conditionally accept the manuscript in the first round. If a paper is accepted under this policy, it will only be subject to minor revisions.

To streamline the peer-review process, authors can choose to include previous referee reports and decision letters from other journals. This option is avaialable for both regular and single-round submissions. Authors should mention in the cover letter to the editor that they have chosen to include previous submission materials, and the cover letter should also include a brief note explaining the relevant background.

Authors submit a PDF version of the manuscript online using the “Submit Manuscript” button at the top of this page. Manuscripts submitted to the SJE will include a non-refundable submission fee of USD 135, payable by credit card during the submission process.

The SJE has a data policy for experimental papers and empirical papers.
Please read the data policy before you submit a paper. Upon acceptance, authors will be asked to prepare their manuscript according to the SJE’s formatting guidelines.

The SJE has a policy for expedited review. The editor may reject a manuscript without obtaining a referee report from an outside reviewer if the editor considers the paper to be clearly unsuitable for publication in the SJE. Reasons for such a decision include (but are not limited to) the originality of the topic, the quality of the analysis, or the suitability of the topic for a general-interest journal.

The submission fee will not be returned for papers that receive an expedited review. Prior to submission, authors are advised to consult previously published articles in order to judge suitability for the SJE.

To further speed up the review process, the SJE asks referees to structure their reports into two groups. The first is essential points: at most three issues that the authors must address for publication (more than this normally warrants rejection). The second is suggestions: helpful but non-essential comments.
